About Us
Blumin Pty Ltd, hereafter known simply as “Blumin” is owned by Sandy
Cummins and Simone & Stephen Gilbert. The focus of the
business is to provide pesticide-free flower & herb designs, picked
straight from the garden, with a fragrance that lifts your spirits and
fills your senses – one of “real” flowers and herbs with true &
beautiful scents. Breathe the perfume in and almost involuntarily your
reaction will be “aaahhhhhhh beautiful”……..
Sourced from the rich soils of Daylesford and surrounding Macedon Ranges region, flower and herb designs are personally styled in Blumin’s studio within hours of picking and promptly delivered directly to the customer.
The name “Blumin” is derived from the first three letters of the miner’s cottage Sandy shares with her three dogs , “Blue Mount Five” in Trentham and the very special property of their close friends Simone, Stephen and Laura Gilbert in nearby Glenlyon – “Mingary”. BLUMIN! Not only does it have significance but also quirky links, given its business is flowers! Together with other local properties, they serve as a combined base to create a “from the ground to the vase” offering and thus the concept of Blumin – to provide fresh, fragrant flowers & herbs – “from our garden to you”.
One of the earliest inspirations for Blumin was Sandy’s grandmother’s rose and hydrangea garden and those neighbouring it containing glorious peonies. Sandy dreamt of growing her flowers, specifically peonies, locally. Because a single focus on growing peonies, with their short flowering season, was not practical, Blumin’s focus expanded to encompass a more diverse range of flowers, including Simone’s passion, English Garden Roses.
Like Sandy’s dream, Simone’s pasion for roses reaches back into her childhood. She helped family friends tend their incredible garden’s full of deliciously fragrant “old style” roses. She has proudly owned a property whose “front yard” was infact a mass of 3000 Old English and David Austins Roses. Having parted with that property, she and Stephen, both members of the Victorian Rose Society, have always dreamt of establishing their own rose farm: “Mingary Roses” is in its infancy. She and Stephen are thrilled to be working with flowers, especially roses of course.
In one conversation between long-standing friends a series of dreams collided and Blumin was born!
The value of returning to highly regarded origins – provenance – is of primary importance to Blumin’s success and sees the seasonal offerings range from English garden roses – to peonies (Blumin’s signature flower), dahlias, hydrangeas, sweetpeas, daphne and lily of the valley among many others. Blumin also incorporates naturally grown herbs in their offerings including sage, rosemary and mint among the many varieties.
A range of seasonal local flowers, herbs and foliage creates the core “Tussie Mussie” range – A tussie-mussie or word poesy (original spelling) is a small circular nosegay of flowers and herbs, tightly gathered and designed to carry a special message in the language of flowers. Each of Blumin’s fragrant flower bouquets contains the “secret language of flowers” guide – which will unlock each bouquet’s meaning. Herb bouquets are treated similarly but classed into specific cuisines or food types such as Italian, French, Asian; Poultry, Grills, Vegetables and Salads with accompanying recipes.
Future product lines include a unique and exclusively branded gift range of weekender bags, message-boards, market totes, bath accessories and candles.
Blumin’s birth is attributable to the involvement of a dedicated team.
